Former Governor of Gombe state and current senator for Gombe North, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, has asked the Gombe state government to halt payment of his pension and allowance. The former governor made this request in an official addressed to the state government in October 2023. Dankwambo previously served as governor of Gombe State from 2011 to 2019. He is also a former Accountant-General of the Federation and has served on the board of The Central Bank of Nigeria.

The first public request seeking suspension of pension and allowance by a former governor was made by former governor of Anambra state and presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, Mr Peter Obi. With his letter to the state government, Ibrahim Dankwambo follows in the recent footsteps of former governor of Ogun State and current senator (Ogun East), Gbenga Daniel, who in a letter to state governor, Dapo Abiodun, dated June 14, 2023, requested suspension of his monthly pension.
