Suicide of Woman in Viral "Mummy Calm Down Video"; Police Detains Husband

 Following the alleged suicide of Toluige Olokoobi Babalola, a woman who gained public attention(including attention of Lagos state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu) in  July 2020 after she posted a video of her young son Ore, repeatedly chanting "Mummy, calm Down" in an attempt to evade punishment, her husband, Babalola Lawal, has been detained by officers of the Edo State Police Command.  According to her husband's eyewitness account, he had returned home from the market on the afternoon of 6th November 2023, to find his wife hanging on a rope in their apartment. The couple resident in Benin City, had three young children including a one year old.

Confirming the incident and arrest of the deceased's husband, Spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, said Mr Babalola Lawal reported the case himself to the police. He further stated that the DPO queried the action of the deceased's husband of not reporting the suicide to the police before taking the corpse to the hospital and mortuary. In Chidi Nwabuzor's words: “The man is still with the police and would soon be transferred to the command homicide section of the state CID for further investigation."
