A credit officer of a microfinance bank, identified as Esther Hamidu, has been arrested by the police in Ogun State for allegedly fleeing with customers’ contributions of N1.97m.
According to reports, Hamidu absconded with the March to December 2023 daily contribution of the bank’s customers.
According to reports, the branch manager of the bank in Abeokuta, discovered that the contribution had not been remitted, and thereafter reported the matter to the police.
After several pleas to make the Hamidu remit the contribution, she absconded and disappeared into thin air despite efforts by the police to arrest her.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, while confirming the incident to PUNCH said Hamidu was arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, on Friday.
“Yes, she has been arrested. She has been transferred from Ibadan, where she was arrested, to Ogun State. She has confessed to the crime. She could not explain what she did with the money,” Odutola told the publication.
