An associate professor of Botany at the University of Lagos identified as Dr Kadiri Akeem Babalola, has been arrested and is set to be arraigned in court for the rape of a 20 year old undergraduate. The victim accused the lecturer of raping her in his office when she had gone to him to resolve issues pertaining to her results on 16th August 2023.

The 20 year old victim had in turn narrated her ordeal to an NGO named Inclusive Social Welfare and Empowerment Foundation, that in turn, took up the case legally. After series of investigation which involved the intervention of the vice chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, the VC invited the accused lecturer for "questioning" where he reportedly owned up to the crime. Professor Ogunsola through the Chief Security Officer of the institution, informed the police of his confession, which led to the arrest of Dr Babalola. According to the NGO, the management of the University has been tirelessly working alongside the police to ensure justice for the victim.
