A 45 year old Malawian male identified as Rex Kondwani as committed suicide by hanging himself. The deceased had taken his own life because his wife gave away the K12,000 they had earned from doing gardening work. According to reports Mrs Kondwani had given the money as donation towards a church project without informing her husband. A heated argument ensued between the couple which eventually led to Rex Kondwani hanging himself on the roof of the prayerhouse his wife gave the money to.

Senior superintendent George Kaleso, the Masambanjati police officer in-charge, confirmed the suicide as well as the reason for it in a statement released on Wednesday 6th September, 2023. He revealed that the tragic incident took place at Muwalo village, Traditional Authority Changata in the district. George Kaleso added that the recorded number of suicide cases is currently on the rise in Malawi with 256 cases confirmed in the fist half of this year.
