Attendees of a funeral taking place at Ijero Ekiti in the Ijero Local Government Area of Ekiti sustained injures as the roof of the event center being used for the occasion collapsed on them. Of the 250 Guests at the event center, those who sustained injuries in the ensuing scramble for safety were rushed to the hospital for treatment. The hall and its surroundings was littered with spilled meals from the guests dishes broken bottles, shoes, male caps, female wigs and headgears.

Lawmaker representing the Ijero constituency, Ademola Ojo, who said no life was lost in the incident, said it took the quick intervention of spirited individuals to rescue victims from the rubble to avert fatalities. Deputy governor of Ekiti state, Chief Mrs Monisade Afuye, also visited the collapsed building and victims at the Ijero General Hospital. While lamenting the unfortunate incident, she declared the collapse "very disturbing and saddening."
