Governor of Ondo state Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu has returned to Nigeria after a three month medical leave in Germany. The governor began his medical leave in June, which was later extended indefinitely by the state House of Assembly. His time away from office was fraught with various rumours of his worsening health condition or demise.

Governor Akeredolu who arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, on the afternoon of Thursday September 7th 2023, was immediately flown to his private residence in Ibadan, Oyo state. Members of the state Executive Council and top party Chieftains have been directed to meet with him in his residence where he is expected to receive briefings for some weeks before resuming work fully. During the governor's time away from his duties, deputy governor of Ondo state Lucky Aiyedatiwa has been functioning as acting governor of the state.
