A husband and wife have been arrested for starving their 5 year old daughter over accusations of witchcraft in Adazi-Ani village located in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra state. The Anambra state commissioner for women and social welfare, Hon Ify Obinabo, publicly disclosed this situation after a meeting with the couple in her office. She also assured that the 5 year old had been retrieved from her parents and was receiving medical attention at a hospital in Awka, the state's capital.

The arrested parents of the 5 year old, 47 year old Mr Michael Wosu who hails from Rivers state and 23 year old Mrs Blessing Michael from Akwa Ibom state, told Hon Obinabo that they were not responsible for their daughter's emaciated appearance because they had simply been obeying their pastor's prophecy that she was a ''witch'' and did not "deserve to live.'' Blessing further claimed that their 5 year old daughter was "responsible'' for her husband's downfall. Michael Wosu on the other hand, denied knowledge of the ill-treatment meted the child.
