The corpse of Atanda Modupe Deborah, a first year nursing student of the Federal University of Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) has been discovered two days after she went missing. Deborah's body was reportedly found buried in a shallow grave with her eyes plucked out. The victim's who was discovered behind her faculty, went missing after she had gone to study in class on the night of Monday 4th September 2023. Her roommates had raised the alarm and declared her missing when she did not return from the previous night's reading.

Reacting to the horrendous incident, registrar of the University, Mufutau Ibrahim, in a statement signed on the evening of Wednesday 6th September, ordered all students to vacate the school's premises with immediate effect in order to ensure a "proper, holistic and unimpeded thorough investigation". While assuring that the university would exhaust all steps to bring the culprits to book, the registrar revealed that a new resumption date would be conveyed to the students in due course.
