In a tragic turn of events, three travellers lost their lives when a Toyota Sienna sunk into a river along the Sagamu-Benin expressway on Saturday 2nd September 2023. The vehicle had been heading to Lagos from Benin city when the driver lost control, killing three passengers and leaving one severely injured. FRSC officials revealed that the injured victim was taken to Hope Clinic J4 in Ijebu-East LGA of Ogun state.

Public education officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident stating: 'The accident occurred around 11:55 a.m, and the suspected cause of the crash was excessive speed and loss of control which made the vehicle to plunge into the river. The vehicle marked APP 830 HX was coming from Benin and heading to Lagos.” Ms Okpe also revealed that bodies of those who lost their lives in the accident have been deposited at the State General Hospital morgue located in Ijebu-Ode. She further appreciated the efforts of local divers involved in the rescue operation.
