Before Tobi lost her position to Danielle Williams, Tobi set the now surpassed world record for the women’s 100m hurdles of 12.12 seconds at the 2022 World Athletics Championship. Two months before the 2023 Athletics Championship, Tobi had been suspended after she was slammed with Antidoping Charges by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) which led to fears of the athlete being unable to compete in this year's championship. However, following investigations, a disciplinary panel cleared Amusan of any wrongdoing just two days before the commencement of the championship.
