‘We Go Push You And Nothing Go Happen’, Lagos Police Threaten Limping Driver Into Getting The Only 5,000 On Him


A driver known as Francis Adeyemi was driving on monday from Papalanto, Ogun State, to Owode Onirin in Lagos State when he was stopped by police officers.l for what was expected to be a routine exercise but escalated into him being asked to cart away with the sum of 50,000 even after all his vehicles documents had been vetted.

“One officer Nebor Okoluwa stopped me and requested for my vehicle documents, I presented them, but he started making threats of bodily harm. After much delay, he handed me over to one officer Osema Charles, who then took me to Elere Police Station.” Francis said.

Francis spoke of his health condition avascular necrosis which causes him pains from his hip level down to his knees with one of his legs being shorter than the other said the officers threatened to push him to the ground if he refused to pay them the requested amount.

“I can’t remember everything they said, but when they noticed my awkward posture, they said, ‘I go push you down now, nothing go happen.‘” Adeyemi said, while recalling the encounter.

Adeyemi in his bid to gain freedom, caved in and made them an offer of the sum of ₦5,000 after which he accompanied the officers to a PoS marketer who residing at the police station where he credited a Palmpay account of a certain Blessing Faasema.

“It was the only money I had in my account, and I even begged them to give me ₦1,000 out of it, but they refused,” Adeyemi said.

When a reporter from the Foundation For Investigative Journalism, FIJ called the DPO of that station Amodu Jibrin, he said he wasn’t aware of  such an incident happening and requested for Adeyemi to come over to the station in other to identify the officers and have his money returned.

He said, “Please tell the man to see me. I am not aware of this, we are seriously against such attitude, and we do not send anybody to collect money from people.”

Adeyemi promised to avail himself at the station as soon as possible as he was already far away in owode at tge time he was contacted.
