A medical doctor identified as Vwaere Diaso has died in an elevator accident which took place at the General Hospital located in Odan, Lagos Island. According to reports, the unfortunate incident occurred on the night of Monday 1st August 2023 when the deceased doctor had used the elevator to go pick up a delivery from a waiting dispatcher. Dr Diaso had still been in the elevator when it crashed all the way from the 10th floor to the ground, she had been stuck in the ruined elevator for over an hour before she was rushed to the emergency ward of the hospital where she later died.

Further reports allege that the elevator which led to the death of Dr Diaso-a graduate of Babcock University who had less than two weeks to complete her housemanship-had been faulty for over a year. The reports also claim that all efforts to get the hospital management involved in the maintenance of the faulty elevator had proved abortive as the funds needed to take care of the faulty elevator had been embezzled by hospital authorities. Anonymous social media users have put up a series of posts detailing various ways the management of the General Hospital have been negligent in their duties and staff welfare.
