Ribadu Meets With South-East Governors Behind Closed Doors

The National Security Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, Nuhu Ribadu on Monday had a closed door meeting with Governors from the South-East in Abuja.

Although the details of the closed-door meeting isnt made known up until this point, it is believed that it is very likely connected to the recent security situation in Imo, Anambra, Enugu, Abia and Ebonyi States which has worsened in recent times.

Recall that the the Senate had last week spoken against the illegal sit-at-home being enforced by a faction of  the proscribed group Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the South East area of the country and urged the Federal Government to work in tandem with the Government of Finland for the deportation of Simon Ekpa, pro-Biafran agitator, for prosecution.

The unconstitutional sit-at-home order which is crippling many businesses in the region was first declared in 2021 to force the government into releasing IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, who was in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) and was facing prosecution for charges relating to terrorism.

The senate said that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the moment he his appointed and any other relevant parties involved should immediately carry out proper investigation in other to apprehend every individual collaborating with the agitator.

The Senate also declined to push for the release of IPOB leader, Nnnamdi Kanu as recommended, saying it would amount to be against the law to get involved in a matter that was still being debated in  court.
