Prof Pat Utomi Details Struggle With Cancer

 Nigerian professor of economics Patrick Okedinachi Utomi, popularly referred to as Pat Utomi, has in a series of tweets, given details of his struggle with prostate cancer. The professor revealed that a biopsy treatment showed positive and he commenced treatment at a cancer center in Ikeja in 2022, while stating that all through the period of the presidential campaign, he had been receiving treatment. Professor Pat Utomi cited his health struggles as a reason he seemingly went quiet during electioneering as medical experts controlled his phones to reduce stress. He further revealed that he wanted to openly speak against the hushed manner generally associated with fighting a disease like cancer as speaking about his ordeal made him realise many men in Nigeria over the age of 60 were experiencing the same ordeal.

Professor Pat Utomi is the founder of Centre for Value in Leadership (CVL) and the African Democratic Congress. He is a professor at Lagos Business School and has served in senior positions in government, as an adviser to the president of Nigeria. Utomi also ran a failed attempt for presidency of Nigeria in 2011. In 2021, Pat and other political stakeholders pioneered the formation of a new political opposition ahead of the 2023 Nigerian general elections.
