The Board of Trustees of the New Nigeria Peoples Party has suspended its founder and candidate in the February 25 presidential election, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for alleged anti-party activities. The suspension which is to last for six months was unanimously agreed upon by members of the party at its special general assembly, held at the Rockview Hotels located in Apapa, Lagos Senator Kwankwaso was also relieved of his position as national leader by the board. The party founder is to serve his suspension alongside 18 other members of the NNPP.

Speaking to the press at the end of the meeting in Lagos on Tuesday, Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Babayo Muhammed Abdulahi, accused Kwankwaso of fraternizing with President Bola Tinubu, the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party Mr. Peter Obi, without the board’s authorisation. The board's secretary further described the suspended presidential candidate's action as "flagrant gross violation of the party’s constitution."
