Following the arrest and subsequent parade of a hundred men suspected to be homosexuals in the middle of a gay wedding by the Delta State Police, British-Nigerian gay priest, Jide Macaulay, has ordered Nigerians to "let the gays breathe". In a lengthy post on his official social media platform, the priest admonished Nigerians to allow LGBTQ individuals live openly and peacefully, while expressing his solidarity with members of the gay community. Jide Macaulay emphasized that LGBTQ individuals are not a threat to the nation and only desire to live without interference.

59 year old Rowland Ayoola Babajide Macaulay is an openly gay British-Nigerian LGBTQ rights activist and ordained priest by the Anglican Church of England. He is the founding Pastor of House Of Rainbow, Nigeria's first house of worship catering for the LGBTQ community in Nigeria. Jide Macaulay was honoured as 2007 Man of the Year by the UK Black LGBT for his role in helping LGBT people of faith.
