Following the scandal that hit the faculty of law of the University of Calabar after law students protested the incessant sexual harassment meted them by then Dean of the Faculty, Professor Ndifon, the university's vice- chancellor Professor Florence Obi, has assured that the institution's management carried out a "clean sweep" of the law faculty, ensuring that all principal officers are now women. Professor Obi made this announcement while speaking with Channels Television on Saturday 26th August 2023. She also said that the university had carried out measures to curtail cases of sexual harassment between lecturers and students of the institution.

On 14th August 2023, students of UNICAL's faculty of law had protested against persistent sexual harassment meted them by the Dean of the faculty, Prof Cyril Ndifon. The students, wielding different placards, chanted and demanded an end to the sexual harassment from the Professor. The professor who happens to be UNICAL's first professor of law, was suspended by the university following public outcry.
