US Court Sentences Hushpuppi's Associate to 8 Years in Prison

 Jacob Olalekan Ponle better known as Mr Woodberry, popular sidekick of convicted fraudster Ramon Olorunwa Abbas commonly referred to as Hushpuppi, has been sentenced to eight years and three months in prison for overseeing a multi-million dollar fraud scheme. The fraudster was sentenced on July 11 by Judge Robert Gettleman of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago, after pleading guilty to one count charge of wire fraud. Mr Woodberry was first arrested by law enforcement officers in Dubai and later handed over to America's Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2020.

Mr Woodberry who will be deported to Nigeria after serving his prison sentence, is expected to pay seven victims about $8 million in restitution. The convicted fraudster is also expected to  forfeit items already in custody of the Dubai police. These possessions include: a Rolls Royce, a Lamborghini Urus, a Mercedes-Benz G-Class AMG G55, four Rolex watches, one Patek Philippe watch, and three Audemars Piguet watches. Mr Woodberry will in addition to the listed items, be forfeiting three gold and diamond-studded rings, five gold bracelets and two gold bracelet keys, six gold neck chains, one gold and diamond-studded necklace, one small gold nugget, two bank cards, about $1,835 in Emirati dirhams, and approximately $15.45 in South African Rand.
