The Nigeria Police Promotes Officer Assaulted by Seun Kuti

  The Police Service Commission has announced the promotion of Inspector Mohammed Aminu, the officer who was physically assaulted on the Third Mainland Bridge by afrobeats singer, Seun Kuti. On Saturday 13th April 2023, Seun Kuti had been captured on video aggressively slapping a policeman(Mohammed Aminu) across the face as well as shoving him off on the third mainland bridge. The video went viral and this led the Inspector General of Police to demand an immediate arrest of the singer as well as a full investigation as to the cause of assault.

In a statement released on Thursday, July 20, the Police Service Commission (PSC) said the officer had been promoted to ASP. The PSC spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, who released the statement stated that Aminu, in spite of the assault, displayed a high level of professionalism. In Ani's words: "Inspector Mohammed Aminu, who trended on social media where he was seen being assaulted in uniform by one Seun Kuti, was also promoted to ASP I.". At its ongoing 21st plenary meeting, the commission also  approved the appointment of two Deputy Inspectors General (DIG) and the promotion of the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, to the next rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).
