Governor of Taraba State Agbu Kefas, has reduced school fees paid by students of The Taraba State University located in Jalingo, the state capital. The governor who ordered an immediate 50% slash of the university's tuition during a visit to the campus, stated that the reduction was in a bid to mitigate the crushing effect of the fuel subsidy removal by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration. Governor Agbu Kefas revealed that students had complained of an inability to meet up with the financial obligations of the tertiary institution as a result of the increasing economic depression.
While visiting the university, Governor Kefas further discovered that 53 courses offered by the university are currently unaccredited by the NUC. He also decried the poor state of the university's hostel accommodation while in a meeting with the management team. The governor also ordered a report on why some graduates of the Taraba State University do not get mobilized for the mandatory one year national youth service and in the case of the faculty of law, he observed a huge number of law graduates who are yet to proceed to law school after years of leaving the school.
