The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) has vowed to enforce prohibiting selling of alcohol, hawking and every type of street trading on roadsides, setbacks, medians, major highways, parks and garages in Lagos.
This was part of the statement made by CP Gbemisola Akinpelu (rtd) Corps Marshal of LAGESC, who without mincing words explained that street trading on roadsides, pedestrian bridges, setbacks, medians and hawking on major highways violates environmental laws of Lagos.
Akinpelu says the agency is determined to put an end to all illegal environmental acts, especially those who sell alcohol for sale in the motor parks and garages. She promised the public that the LAGESC is well empowered to bring all perpetrators to book.
Many defaulters have already been and been apprehended with many awaiting to be arraigned in court.
She further revealed that when street traders are caught, the seized perishable goods are usually donated to orphanages while the non-perishables are stored while waiting on the ruling of the court. Often times, the goods are paraded for public auction and remittances from the proceeds are sent to the state coffers.Millions of naira have been realised by the state government since it began this excercise.

Meanwhile, The Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, Gaji Omobolaji Tajudeen, has said that in a bid to foster cleanliness in line with the with the vision of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, a moratorium has been issued against traders on Third mainland bridge and Eko bridge. Anyone arrested would be charged immediately to a mobile court and have their goods seized.
