Broadcast by the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) on the military coup in Niger, has got Nigerians reacting. This is because, the president of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu was at the centre of the discussion.
A few weeks after president Tinubu emerged the head of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Niger's president was dethroned in a military coup.
Tinubu had boasted in his inaugural speech as the head of ECOWAS that military coup will no longer be tolerated across West African states.
Hence, the reason the commentator in the embedded video of the SABC noted that the head of the ECOWAS and Nigeria's president, is currently facing pressure due to the outcome of the 2023 Nigeria's presidential election that brought him to power amid myriad of electoral chaos and irregularities. Hence, the commentator argues that Tinubu's ECOWAS leadership might find it difficult to take a strong action against the military usurpers in Niger especially as his administration is vastly perceived illegitimate by Nigerians.
