To widespread jubilation of residents of the Igbogene Community located in Bayelsa state, members of the Yenagoa police have recovered two children stolen and sold for #1.6 million naira by child traffickers/abductors who had been pretending to be tenants in the building where the children resided. The children identified as 4 year old Success and 2 year old Prince, were abducted by these faux tenants on Monday 19th June 2023. The kidnapping duo identified as 22 year old Sunday Anele and 24 year old Chioma Obi posing as siblings, had taken the children away in the guise of buying them medicine to take care of a minor ailment.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Asinim Butswat, in a statement, said that Sunday Aniele and Chioma Obi were arrested in Ughelli, Delta State. Their accomplices, Kingsley Chimobi and Harriet Chukwu, were arrested in Onitsha, Anambra State. The suspects confessed to receiving the total sum of 1.6 million naira after abducting the children. Butswat also revealed that further investigation took the Police team to Enugu, where 4 year old female child named Success, was recovered on 21st July 2023, and Abangwa, Abia State where 2 year old Prince was recovered on 22 July 2023. Butswat assured that all parties involved in the criminal act will be made to face the full wrath of the law after thorough investigation is carried out by the investigating unit.
