Police Apprehend Two Men Responsible For Hacking UBA Customers' Accounts





The Nigerian Police has arrested  Adesina Olawale Abiodun aged 50 and Yusuf Ademola aged 40 years for hacking into numerous bank accounts and moving money undetected as they please after it received a petition  on the 8th of May 2023  from United Bank for Africa (UBA).


According to the petition which was addressed to the assistant inspector general of police, there are some individuals who have been defrauding bank customers particularly those of United Bank for Africa (UBA), by gaining access into their accounts through hacking and moving funds.

The AIG, upon receiving the petition immediately moved into action by forming a team that consisting of policemen from the Zonal Monitoring Unit.

Using modern technology, the criminals were apprehended in the hideouts in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

Speaking to the press, Zonal Police Public Relations Officer of Zone 2 Command HQ Onikan Lagos, SP Hauwa Idris Adamu, explained that the suspects also confessed that there are still many of them all over the country and that the hacking is done with the use of a software.

One of the criminals said all that is required to defraud a customer is to have his/her phone number linked to a Bank Verification Number (BVN) and the rest of the work is easy.

Over a thousand persons have fallen prey to practices of these criminals.

On the 11th of April 2022, a POS agent based in Kaduna identified as Ifetayo Moshood’s UBA account was breached and she lost N318,600

“On April 11, after I had finished my business for the day, I checked my balance and saw N318,000. Afterwards, I locked up my shop to head home, only to receive debits of N200,000, N100,000, and N8,600, all within a minute.” she said
