Former president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Professor Dipo Fasina popularly referred to as Jingo, who was declared missing on Saturday 1st July 2023, has been found. The Union's former president was found in a Turkey airport and is set to return home to Nigeria on Monday, 10th July 2023. The 76 year old had been travelling to Algeria when he was said to have missed his connecting flight from Istanbul, Turkey. The news of Professor Fasina's discovery and retrieval at the Istanbul airport was released in a tweet by The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission(NIDCOM). The commission also commended Nigeria’s Embassy in Turkey for the collaborative efforts to locate the academic.

Professor Fasina taught Philosophy for 34 years at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, which he joined in 1979 after returning from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he bagged his Ph.D. certificate. He is said to have founded the Philosophy department at the Ogun State University (now Olabisi Onabanjo University), where he reportedly donated his entitlements to establish a library. Professor Dipo Fasina was nicknamed Jingo by his students as according to stories, the scholar frequently used the fictitious name to cite examples in his crowded classes.
