Everton midfielder Bamidele Jermaine Alli better known as Dele Alli, has in an emotional interview with former England footballer Gary Neville, revealed that he was molested and sexually abused by his mother's friend at the tender age of six. He further explained that because he had an alcoholic mother, his mother's friend who had spent a lot of time in his childhood home had had the opportunity to abuse him. The 27 year old footballer also revealed in the candid podcast that he had an addiction to sleeping tablets, started dealing drugs at eight years old and had spent six weeks in rehab in the USA this summer. Dele Alli attributed his emotional and psychological problems to "childhood trauma, which in turn, put him "in a bad place mentally".

Dele Alli plays as an attacking midfielder for Premier League club Everton. Born and raised in Milton Keynes to a Yoruba Nigerian father, Kehinde, and an English mother, Denise, Dele joined the youth system at Milton Keynes Dons aged 11 and broke into the first team five years later, during the 2012–13 season. Alli has made several appearances at U17 and U18 levels for England and was earlier in his career, widely considered one of the best young midfielders of his generation.
