Former Manchester United wonderkid, Jesse Lingard has been slammed with a ban from driving for six months after failed to identify who drove the his Range Rover car that was pulled up for running above speed limit by the police.
The 30-year-old attacker, whose is without a club after his contract with Nottingham Forest expired last June appeared before the Manchester Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty the offence.
According to a story published by Daily Mail on Friday, Frank Rogers who is Jesse Lingard’s attorney said that although Lingard was not the driver of the Range Rover vehicle, he wasn't aware that a request for the information on the driverbhad been sent because it was sent to the address of his previous residence in Manchester while he had relocated to Nottingham.
“He was at the time of the speeding offence living in rented accommodation in Nottingham, where he was then playing. The documents went out to his then permanent address, in Altrincham.Mr Lingard has accepted that the system in place at that time just was not good enough to protect him and deal with processing his mail.So when the speeding offence was committed in August last year in Stretford, Mr Lingard was in Nottingham. He was not the driver.” Rogers said.
Lingard who was with Manchester United since his 9th birthday until he was transferred to Nottingham Forest last year is now in talks with a couple of clubs ahead of the new football season.
He said the footballer was single and financially supports his extended family.
The court ruled that Lingard had been found guilty on two occasions for over speeding as far back as June 5 and June 6, 2020 and though they had “lapsed”, due to him pleading guilty, the six points gotten from those offences became re-activated and triggered immediate disqualification from driving.
“Your licence will be endorsed with six penalty points. The six already recorded against you in 2022 count, so you are liable to be disqualified under the totting-up process, So you are disqualified for six months. That begins immediately.” District Judge Jane Hamilton said to Lingard.
In addition, he was fined £900 with £200 in court costs and a surcharge of £360.
