A civil servant based in Akwa Ibom-based known as Chioma Ogbu has narrated her embarrassing experience with a tech loan agency known as Camel Loan who is making life difficult for her by asking her to pay a loan of N6,000 she didn't apply for in the first place.
Chioma explained that it started on the 11th of July when she scrolled through her phone looking for which platform could give her access to loans when she came across a platform known as Camel Loan and decided to sign up.
She said while she was yet reading through their terms and conditions, she noticed that her account had been credited with the sum of N6,000.
“I was on the app reading their terms and conditions when I saw that N6000 had been disbursed into my account, I ransacked their app to see how I could refund it, but there was nothing like that.”
Ogbu said that to her amazement, a staff of the loan app called her exactly 10 days later threatening to launch a pasquinade against her and expose her bank details if she failed to pay a sum of N13,000.

“While I was seeking how to return the money, I got a threat call from one of their agents, who said I had to pay back N13,000.I tried to explain that I didn’t use the money for anything. What do I need N6000 for? It is ridiculous compared to what I am seeking. When I begged the agent and he didn’t relent, he began to share defamatory messages about me to my contacts, and I started getting calls. When I could no longer bear the shame, I paid back the N13,000.”
The lady said after paying more than double the money that was sent to her, another staff of the loan company put a call through to her saying an interest had accumulated on the money and that she needed to pay.
“The day after paying the loan, another agent from Camel Loan called and said I had to pay N2,600 to clear the interest accumulated on the loan,” she said.
“When I tried to protest it, he also went ahead to share defamatory messages about me. I had to quickly pay another N2,600. That’s a total of N15, 600 for a loan I didn’t apply for, which is so painful. Today again, another agent called to say I hadn’t cleared my loan. I don’t understand what is going on. Camel Loan is making my life miserable.”
Up until the time of this report, CameLoan hasn't responded.
