After Several Months, Lagos State Government Reopens Apogbon Bridge

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Saturday announced that the Apongbon bridge which was closed for over 15 months as a result of a fire outbreak at the market in the environment on the 25th is now set to be reopened

The Governor’s announcement was made public by Gboyega Akosile the Chief Press Secretary to the Lagos State Governor via his official twitter account.

The reopening of the bridge will bring huge relief to motorists and commuters who have endured months of pain transiting in and out of Lagos Island as well as end a long wait for the use of the section of that bridge.

The Governor said that though the Apogbon section of the Eko bridge axis was ready for use, it would be shut temporarily in the coming months as periodic maintenance work would continue.

“In future, there will be more intermittent closures at different sections of the bridge but the period may not be longer than one or two weeks. This is necessary for us to jerk up the bridge and complete the maintenance work. We are reopening the bridge to bring relief to road users, who have endured hardship due to the repair work.” The Governor said

He also said that the contractor in charge of the project is well briefed on the need to ensure the bridge is no longer misused and is currently reconstructing ancillary roads along the corridor of the bridge.

Sanwo-Olu said buying and selling under the bridge would no longer be allowed to prevent any additional damage to the flyover.

Motorists and Commuters who ply the Lagos Island route can now ease of movement after several months of inconveniences.
