Sylvester Turner, Mayor of Houston Texas, has officially declared 7th July as a yearly celebration called Davido Day. The date which was chosen in honour of Nigerian singer David Adeleke better known as Davido, was in honour of his unforgettable and crowd-pulling performance in the city of Houston. Davido who is currently on the American lap of his ‘Timeless Tour’ on 7th of July 2023, captivated his fans at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, United States of America. The singer's appearance caused the 20,000 capacity Toyota Center to sell out tickets and led the city to recognise his significant contribution to the music industry.

During the electrifying show which was held on July 7th, a member of Houston City Council, Edward Pollard attended the concert and announced July 7 as Davido Day in the City of Houston. The official statement proclaiming July 7 Davido Day states: “I, Sylvester Turner, Mayor of the city of Houston, do hereby proclaim July 7, 2023, as Davido Day.” With this recognition, Davido joins the league of other prominent artists who have been honoured by cities for their remarkable achievements. Fellow Nigerian music superstar, Wizkid, was similarly recognized in 2018 when Governor of Minnesota declared every October 6th Wizkid Day.
