Woman Shoots Uber Driver Over Assumed Kidnapping

48 year old Phoebe Copas is currently facing murder charges after shooting her Uber driver in the head over an assumption of being kidnapped. Phoebe Copas had been riding in the car with the 52 year Uber driver Daniel J. Piedra, on her way to meeting up with her boyfriend at his workplace, the Speaking Rock Casino in Texas. In the course of the ride, Phoebe who had been picked up at a point that was barely 1 mile away from the Mexican border, saw a signpost welcoming her to Mexico, frantically assumed that the Uber driver had planned to kidnap her and run off to Mexico.

Phoebe claimed to have panicked upon sighting the signpost and went on to shoot the Uber driver in the back of his head with a handgun she retrieved from her purse. Phoebe did not attempt to call 911 before the shooting but made her first call to her boyfriend, whom she texted a photo of the wounded driver. When police arrived at the shooting scene, the boyfriend was already there. The police report said there is no indication Piedra deviated from the route to the casino. Daniel J Piera has sadly passed away from the gunshot wound after he was taken off life support a few days ago following doctors' assessment of the wound as fatal. Phoebe is currently held in custody of the El Paso police on a $1.5 million bond.
