The immediate past governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has disclosed in an interview with the BBC Pidgin what his response will be should Nigeria's new president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu give him a political appointment.
Wike had formed an alliance with the All Progressive Congress (APC) ahead of the Nigeria's February 25th presidential election. The alliance came at the expense of his party, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) as well as the presidential candidate of his party, Atiku Abubakar.
Though the condition for his supporting Bola Ahmed Tinubu's presidential ambition has not been made public but many speculate that he is to be rewarded for his support by the new administration.
Speaking to the BBC Pidgin, Wike disclosed that Bola Ahmed Tinubu has not informed him about his intention to offer him( Wike) a political appointment. He added that after serving the governor of Rivers State for eight years that he wishes to rest from public service.
He however explained that should Tinubu offer him a political appointment, he will first consult with his wife as well as his friends to know which way to go.
In his words: "Tinubu has not informed me about getting an appointment; I’m not too big to serve my country, but he has never told me that he would give me an appointment.
“If he asks me, the first thing I will do is ask my wife and friends what they think about it.
“I will also assess myself if I’m prepared. I will never do what I’m not ready for.”
