In a bizarre and tragic turn of events, a 20 Year old has been crushed to death in his sleep. The victim named Jamal Nureni had been asleep when a full tank of water fell from the top of the neighbour's building, right into his grandmother's house which was adjacent the location of the tank. The tragic incident took place on Alhaji Kazeem street, Hostel bus stop, Ikotun-Egbe area of Lagos. According to reports, the tank crashed through the roof and landed solidly in the room Jamal Nureni had been asleep in, instantly crushing the youth. He had been rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared Dead on Arrival. Before his death, Jamal Nureni had been attempting to gain entry into the University of Lagos and had lived with his grandmother for 3 years while his father resided in Canada.

The distraught grandmother of the deceased, Alhaja Yemisi Odejinmi, tearfully explained that she had many times warned her neighbour about the tank which caused her grandson's death. She stated that in her 40 years of living in the compound, the neighbours adjacent her building had repeatedly pumped water to the point where it spilled over into her compound. All of her warnings and entreaties regarding the dangerous proximity of the tank fell on deaf ears. Alhaja Yemisi Odejinmi also revealed that the neighbours whose tank had caused her grandson's demise had been profusely pleading for forgiveness since the tragic incident occurred at about 6:30am on the morning of Saturday 17th June, 2023.
