Catholic Priest Chinenye John Oluoma popularly known as Fada Oluoma, has in his sermon to his congregation bemoaned the manner in which gospel singers have made Christianity expensive. In a sermon to his congregation, the priest cited gospel musician Mercy Chinwo as case study. According to him, if he had to invite the singer to minister in his diocese, he'd have to pay a sum of #10 million naira or even more. Father Oluoma referred to this monetization of the gospel as "the tragedy Christianity has become" because Christians have made worship expensive.
Father Oluoma further bemoaned the monetization of Christianity by stating that it wasn't a case of not paying gospel ministers. In his opinion, one has to pay them because inviting them to minister in your church is no longer to serve God but a source of entertainment. The priest stated that worldliness has seeped into the church as Christians and children of God now pay to be "entertained". Fada Oluoma iswell known on social media for his often controversial sermons and teachings which make it to the social media space. In response to the priest's claim, some other Christian ministers have come to Mercy Chinwo's defense by stating that the gospel ministers has never charged as high as Father Oluoma's quoted sum to make a singing appearance in their ministries.
