Sokoto Governor Subtly Defends Killing Of Usman Hanji, Says Sokoto Is A Muslim State, Warns Against Blasphemy Against Prophet Muhammad
The governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu has reacted to the mob killing of a Sokoto State resident over blasphemy.


It would be recalled that a man identified as Usman Buda Mai Hanji was killed by a mob for allegedly degrading the personality of Prophet Muhammad, SAW at the Sokoto main abbatoir on Sunday morning.

This is coming barely a year after Deborah Samuel was killed and burnt over similar blasphemy allegation.


Governor Aliyu while calling on people of the state to remain calm and law abiding at all times warned that Sokoto is a Muslim state and that Prophet Muhammed must be respectful at all times.


The Governor a statement signed by his spokesperson, Malam Abubakar Bawa, while reacting to the killing, cautioned the people against any act capable of degrading the personality of Prophet Muhammad SAW especially in a State like Sokoto which is predominantly a Muslim dominated community.




The governor said that the people of Sokoto State have so much respect and regard for Prophet Muhammad SAW, and it thus expedient that all the residents to respect, protect his dignity and personality.


"I want to call on the people of Sokoto State to avoid taking laws into their hands, instead, they report any alleged crime or blasphemy to the approrriate quarters for necessary action.


"Our religion does not encourage taking laws into one's hand, so let us try to be good followers of our religion," he appealed.



He also sounded a warning to those who may wish to further blaspheme against the Islamic prophet, adding that his government will not take the issue of blasphemy lightly,and will deal decisively with any one found guilty of any act aimed at degrading the personality of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, in line with the provision of Islamic laws.
