Newly Inaugurated governor of Rivers state Amaopusenibo Siminalayi "Sim" Fubara, has been sharply criticised by netizens for his tweet referring to Rivers state as a "Christian State". The governor in the tweet, stated that Rivers state: "Rivers state is a Christian State and God is our foundation". He further tweeted that the state shall be governed with the fear of God and shall stay true to its strong Christian values of trust, faith, love, care and sacrifice.
Netizens did not take well to the governor's assertion and many replied the tweeting with sharp words of reprimand. They emphatically declared that no one cared if the governor was in charge of a Buddhist, Amadioha or Sango state. Sim Fubara was promptly ordered to get to work while sparing netizens his religiosity. They further urged the Rivers state governor to borrow a leaf from the workbook of his governor colleagues in Abia and Kano states, Alex Otti and Abba Yusuf who within a few days in office have put into actions intended to protect their respective states. Other netizens urged Governor Fubara not to end up like his "wasteful and alcoholic" predecessor, Nyesom Wike who was widely regarded by the people of Rivers state as a "regional tyrant".
