An okada rider in Benue state identified as Akpo Igwe, has been arrested for the alleged rape of a pregnant woman at the Irabi Council Ward located in Obi local government area of the state. The 40 year old Akpo had raped the unnamed 25 year old woman who was 8 months pregnant after she flagged him down to take her home from the market. The devious cyclist had agreed but a few minutes into the ride, had veered off to a lonely bush path where he overpowered and proceeded to rape the heavily pregnant woman.

According to reports, the pregnant woman had passed out in the middle of the gruesome act and the suspect who assumed she had died, dragged and dumped her unconscious body by a river bank where she lay till the next day. Following a thorough search by her relatives, the weakened woman had been discovered by the river and rushed to the hospital. Following treatment at the hospital, the pregnant woman regained consciousness and went on to narrate her ordeal to her confused relatives who had at this time, involved the police. Spokesperson of the Benue state police command, SP. Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident and said the suspect will be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is concluded.
