Nigerian boxer who competed in the men's middleweight event at the 1984 Summer Olympics, Jeremiah Okorodudu-Okoro passed away on Thursday June 28, 2023, following complications from a foot ulcer. The deceased who died in a Lagos hospital after being bedridden for weeks had in the course of treatment, incurred debt that has prevented the hospital from releasing his corpse. According to the deceased's wife Adenike Okorodudu, the hospital in question, a private hospital located in the Lawanson area of Surulere, Lagos, remains unwilling to release her husband's corpse until the outstanding debt of #600,000 naira is cleared. Adenike Okorodudu begged that all she wanted was to be able to take her husband to the mortuary so he could rest in peace.

Vice President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation, Azania Omo-Agege, who confirmed the boxer's death disclosed that he had sent Okorodudu's wife some money on Tuesday, June 27, for his hospital bill. Omo-Agege stated that he had sent the sum of #100,000 naira as his contribution towards the deceased Olympian's medical expense. Okorodudu had been scheduled for an amputation on Saturday but he sadly passed away on the night of June 28th. The 64-year-old olympian who battled foot ulcer in the past couple of years, competed in the men’s middleweight category at the 1984 summer Olympics in Los Angeles. He won a bronze medal at the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, Australia. Okorodudu also received a gold medal at the 1979 National Sports Festival in Ibadan.
