A Tweeter account with the username @AsiyaRodrigo has given a shocking statistics of Nigerians and their assisted reproduction procedures. The tweet stated that Nigeria has the largest egg harvesting operation in the world as millions of Nigerians are exported in small test tubes from IVF clinics around the world for money. The tweet also revealed that European countries use these eggs not only in assisted reproduction but in conducting research too.

@AsiyaRodrigo further penned that egg harvesting has become some sort of black market trade as companies receive more than 1.5 million naira from clients but pay the women whose eggs are being harvested a paltry sum between 100-120k for each harvest. According to the tweet, the women are oftentimes not told of the risks associated with repeated egg harvesting as some of the risks include life-threatening diseases like cancer, liver or kidney failure, infection, internal bleeding or outright death. The tweet noted that every woman is born with a specific number of eggs that cannot be regenerated by her ovaries.
