On Sunday, 11th June, 2023, the Lagos state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, shared a tweet revealing how a welder was arrested for aiding the escape of a suspected cultist.
According to Hundeyin, the welder was arrested by men of the state police command for helping the suspect to cut off his handcuffs.
The suspect identified as Wasiu Opeyemi, was arrested in 2021 but escaped from police custody; while fleeing the welder assisted him in cutting of his handcuffs.
Hundeyin tweet reads,
“Suspected cultist, Wasiu Opeyemi, escaped from police custody in August 2021 in handcuffs.
“Last week, he was re-arrested alongside Aliu Tijani, the welder who cut off the handcuffs when he escaped the first time.”
“The two suspects had both been arraigned and were currently in remand”.
