The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps(LAGESC) has seized alcoholic drinks worth about 2 million naira at a recent raid of parks and garages in the state. The raid led to the confiscation of alcoholic drinks which include the locally brewed "Ogogoro", "Paraga" and "shekpe" by the the sanitation corps. The agency, in a statement released on Monday 19th June , said the clampdown was in line with the state’s efforts to rid garages, parks and roadsides of liquor sales and consumption by motorists. The ban is reportedly aimed at curbing the grave danger posed by these hard liquor and other acholic beverage, to motorists, conductors and pedestrians.

The statement released by the agency on behalf of the Corps Marshal, LAGSEC, CP Gbemisola Akinpelu (retd.), stated that the raid would be a continous exercise. According to the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, the Lagos State Government is concerned about “the alarming rate of liquor drinks sale in garages, motor parks, roadsides and in traffic.” The statement also contained stern warning to hawkers and traders to desist from displaying liquor for sale at the garages, motor parks, in traffic or by the roadside. LAGESC assured that the confiscated drinks will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for subsequent destruction.
