Kano Governor Launches Free Open Heart Surgery for Patients with Cardiac Disease

 Governor of Kano state, Abba Yusuf, has launched a free open heart surgery for patients with cardiac problems and malfunction in the state. The procedures are set to take place at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital is in collaboration with a team of surgeons from Saudi Arabia sponsored by the Saudi Government and in partnership with the Muslim World League in India. Head of the medical team from Saudi Arabia, Dr Uthman Al-uthman Sa'ad, stated that the group comprises  20 cardiac surgeons who will perform the surgery on 20 chosen patients and pledged to do their best in order to achieve the set goals.

Chief Secretary to the Kano state governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, signed a press release on the Governor Yusuf's behalf, stating the governor's intention to stick to his campaign promise of reinvigorating the medical sector as well as reducing medical travel in search of specialized treatment. The Chief Secretary further penned that the open heart surgery initiative is also aimed at augmenting efforts of the state government to give the Kano state health sector its deserved attention. Chief Medical director (CMD)of  theAminu Kano Teaching hospital, Professor Abdulrahman Abba Sheshe said the intervention is timely as there is an increase of heart diseases related cases especially in Northern Nigeria due to the prevalence of hypertension cases.
