Governor of Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu, has officially written the Ondo state House of Assembly informing its members of his medical leave and requesting that his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, be made acting governor of the state. Speaker of the House, Olamide Oladiji announced that the Governor has embarked on a 21-day leave for medical treatment abroad. The leave of absence commences from 7th June to 6th July, 2023. The leave will extend to the 6th of July as a result of public holidays on June 12 (Democracy Day) and Eid el Kabir (28th and 29th June). The Speaker described the governor as a lover of peace and an apostle of the rule of law.

Before his official leave of absence, Mr Akeredolu had been away from office for weeks as a result of undisclosed ailment. Despite the undisclosed nature of his ailment, it is however an open secret that the governor had been battling prolonged illness. It is currently unknown the specific country the governor has gone to seek medical aid abroad.
We wish Governor Rotimi Akeredolu a speedy recovery as the good people of Ondo state look forward to having their governor back.
