Gas Explosion In Gwagwa, Abuja, Scores Injured


 A truck carrying Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has exploded in Gwagwa community, in Abuja leaving many seriously injured.



The incident which happened near the popular Police Junction in the community could have been more disastrous had the driver not suddenly parked the vehicle after perceiving odour of the content, in the process alerting people to run.



According to a resident of the community, Sulaiman Musa, the helpless driver stood there for a while before he disappeared after the vehicle got engulfed in fire.

Another resident, Abdulaziz Adam, who spoke to newsmen said himself and other volunteers had to rush towards the opposite side of the road, turning motorists and pedestrians back. He believes his action saved the situation from getting worse.


A lot of people sustained injuries while trying to escape with few others experiencing fire burns.


 Usman Haruna, a wheelbarrow pusher a victim who jumped off a bridge across Gwagwa River while escaping, got the tendon’s vein of one of his legs cut into two.



It was gathered that he would need a surgery at the hospital but that would only happen when he gets a sponsor.


Other victims of the incident are currently receiving treatment.
