Tinubu Introduces Proof Of Ownership (POC) Fee For Vehicle Categories

 The Nigerian Government has stepped up his revenue drive by introducing a new policy that mandates all vehicles to obtain a Proof of Ownership Certificate (POC).


The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Engr AbdulHafiz Toriola, while unveiling the new policy at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, Lagos, said the certificate which will come into full force in Lagos state in July, adding that part of requirements would be annual renewal.


 Nigerians had before this only have the opportunity to obtain Proof of Ownership when they purchase a used vehicle or change the engine of their vehicle.

 Toriola further explained that the POC policy would affect all classes of vehicles from motorcycle, to tricycle, to mini vehicles, saloon cars, all classes of trucks, articulated vehicles and any mode of transportation that conveys people or products from one point to the other.


He noted that the certificates will contain vital information that will include the vehicle’s registration details, like licence number plate, model, year of manufacture in addition to owner’s name and address.


​Toriola further noted that all States of the Federation will join in the implementation of the new policy, noting that each vehicle owner will be expected to pay a minimum of N1,000 to procure the document.
