"Even if it's 150m, I would sign Osihmen", former Manchester defender advises Ten Hag

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag whose top priority this summer is to sign a traditional number 9 for the Old Trafford club this summer has been advised to sign Super Eagles and Napoli superstar Victor Osimhen as competition for Marcus Rashford who ended the season in his best form with 30 goals in all competitions.

Inspite of Rashford's blistering performance, Ten Hag is still bent on making an addition in the attacking position for Manchester United following Anthony Martial’s struggles for fitness and the return of Wout Weghorst to Burnley.

With the Red Devils keen on signing a big-name in the striking position, 24-year-old Napoli striker Osimhen who recently won the Serie A title with his outstanding 26 league goals performance  which was pivotal in the Italian side ending their 33 year trophy drought is beleived to be top on the list.

Former Man United defender, Mikael Silvestre also shares the same opinion that the Nigerian would be the perfectly suitable to play for the Red Devils.“I would like to see Osimhen of Napoli at Manchester United. I think his characteristics and mental strength would fit United well" , he said while in an interaction with FourFourTwo in association with Freebets.com.

“He would give the strikers a lift and compete with Marcus Rashford for a place upfront. He could also play alongside him, and would be an excellent addition.”

Silvestre is not the only former United player who believes that Osimhen would prove to be an ideal signing for the club ahead of the forthcoming season. Rio Ferdinand has also urged the Glazers to make a move for the Nigerian if the move for Tottenham star Harry Kane doesnt materialise even if it's for a ridiculous amount.

Speaking on Vibe with Five, a podcast hosted by himself, he said: “I’d sign Kane in a heartbeat, he has gone under the radar because of [Erling] Haaland but I am not waiting and playing games in July.

“If he said no, I’d move straight on to Osimhen. Even if he’s £150m, do it. Look at the market. Who else is there? There’s no one ready-made.”

United however, might face fierce competition from  Premier League rivals Chelsea for him should they decide to attempt striking a deal with Napoli. whilst other  potential suitors in Europe are Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Osihmen who is currently the joint sixth all-time highest goalscorer of the Nigeria national team and currently holds the record for the most goals scored by an African in a single season is also the highest goalscoring African of all time in the Serie A.
