Emefiele Is A Flight Risk -- DSS And AGF Office Tells Court

The Department of State Security DSS and the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation have warned against the release of suspended CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele in separate counter-affidavits.

The DSS on its part told the court on June 20 that Emefiele would flee if the court granted him bail.

The CBN governor had approached the High Court, Abuja challenging his detention by the DSS, while also asking the court to enforce his right to liberty & freedom of movement, saying there was no basis for his continuous detention.

The DSS & OAGF in their responses insisted that the governor’s detention was lawful.

The DSS argued that Emefiele was being held pursuant to an order of a competent court.

DSS said the arrest was “upon reasonable suspicion of committing acts which constitute a criminal breach of trust, incitement to violence, misappropriation of public funds, economic sabotage & crimes of national security dimension & undermining the security of the country."
