Edo State Government Increases Minimum Wage to #40,000;Cuts Work Days to Thrice Weekly for Civil Servants

 Governor of Edo state Godwin Obaseki has announced an increment of the minimum wage in Edo state from the government approved #30,000 to #40,000. The governor also announced a reduction of work days for civil servants from 5 days weekly to 3 days of physical appearance in offices with the two other days slated for remote work. The reduction in work days extends to teachers and pupils in a bid to reduce cost of commute for teachers, pupils and parents. The governor who penned this announcement via posts on his official Twitter and other social media platforms, stated that the wage increase and reduced work hours was to help cushion the effect of the fuel subsidy removal declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Governor Obaseki who stated the increment of the minimum wage from 30,000 naira to #40,000 is currently the highest obtainable sum in the country at this time. He also stated that fibre optic connections are being made available to help people work from home alongside an improvement of power supply to homes across the state in order to lower energy cost. Governor Obaseki further assured the people of Edo state of his commitment to ameliorating their hardship as well ensuring a cushioned adjustment to the current realities in the country as a result of the increase in fuel price. The governor implored residents of the state to remain calm and lawfully go about their daily business.
