Former Governor of Akwa-Ibom State, God's will Akpabio has emerged the new President of the Senate.
Senator Akpabio, the preferred candidate of President Tinubu polled over 56 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Senator Yari who had 41 votes.

Akpabio was also the preferred candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He was the minority leader of the Senate between 2015 to 2019 before he left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
He was also the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
